This is Albert Everett Cairns, a 1927 Fitchburg High School graduate who worked as an actor throughout his life. There is an article about him in our most recent (November 2023) newsletter. Contact us if you would like a copy mailed to you. In 1936, he was working for the Federal Theatre Project in Los Angeles. This is identified as "Centennial" in our records, but that does not seem right. Men are wearing summer straw boaters, and the offices in the Park Building (shown) correspond with about 1919. Se we think it is July 4th in Fitchburg, soon after the end of World War I. Now that's a city that knows how to deploy its bunting!

We had some Fitchburg State students come in today and interview a few of our volunteers about the Fitchburg Theater. It's great seeing younger people so interested in Fitchburg history!

A typewriter used by Raivaaja, the once local Finnish newspaper in Fitchburg, was donated to us recently. Come by to see it in our ongoing exhibition Fitchburg Immigrant experience.

The event is free & open to the public and runs from 12pm- 4pm.
